With the new year just around the corner, we are all starting to think of our resolutions to work on for 2018. Your home should be part of the resolution! If you make your home function more easily, your whole life will be more relaxed and convenient.
Ventilation is important for any kitchen.
This is actually a resolution for myself, as well! Just yesterday, while cooking Christmas dinner, the fire alarm went off two different times due to lack of ventilation (and probably my poor cooking skills). Not only is it annoying having your fire alarm go off, but the smoke isn’t good for your health! It was snowy outside, and about 25 degrees. We opened every window, which made for a very cold holiday afternoon.
Adding a new vent hood, which actually has an outside exhaust, will prevent this from happening again! Hopefully next Christmas’s dinner will be a bit less eventful!
Lighting is another important kitchen resolution for any home. This is another thing I recently replaced in my kitchen! All new florescent under cabinet lighting and bright new LED bulbs in our recessed, pot, lighting. It makes functioning in my kitchen so much easier, and makes the space feel much more open.
Designated recycling. Right now, I just have a box where we set all of my fiance’s beer bottles. Not only does this look messy, but it actually isn’t functional. On top of that, I throw away most of our paper, because we don’t have a designated recycling space. Try adding 3 different trash cans (I actually plan on building a 3-in-1 can) that separates the items. Not only is this better for the environment, but it will keep your kitchen a lot less messy and actually help by having to take less trips to the outdoor bins!
This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t also add health and fitness to your resolutions. Stock your better lit, more organized, kitchen with fresh fruit and veggies to keep your new you and new kitchen more comfortable and happier than ever before!
