Master bathrooms can be a struggle to remodel. With only couple hundred square feet, we are want to create a space that feels like a spa. Relocating plumbing and trying to optimize the layout is a challenge as it is expensive and there isn’t much room.
Here are some renovation resolutions to think about when refreshing and renovating your master bathroom in 2019.
Be smart about the renovation
Bathroom remodels are extremely expensive, but there are ways to cut costs. Refacing current cabinets and just adding a new counter top can save thousands in a renovation.
Other ways to cut costs in renovations is to not change the placement of things if you can. While this isn’t always the case, as some layouts are really weird and NEED to be rerouted, try to keep as much as you can in the current place it is.
Also, do as much work yourself as possible. Laying tile isn’t easy, but isn’t impossible either. Just make sure you are confident before you start, otherwise you’ll pay double, after having to have someone else redo the project.
Think about safety
New year means another year older as well. The older we get, the more fragile we become. When thinking about how to design your stand in shower, tub, and floors, imagine how you’d want it to be designed if you were remodeling it for your grandma. Polished marble floors are extremely slippery, try to go with a tile that has a bit more grip. Handle rails are not a bad idea, either! Adding a bench in your stand up shower is great for multiple reasons. Makes your shower much more enjoyable, but for those days where you just want to relax, but don’t want to take a bath, it is a lifesaver!
Keep it simple and bright
Since bathrooms are fairly small, it is extremely easy to make the space “too busy”. Multiple patterns, too many colors, and too detailed of cabinetry are all contributing factors that can ruin the aesthetic appeal of a bathroom. Keep it light and bright, and stick to a soft, neutral color pallet.
Separate the toilet
If possible, separate the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. This is not only extremely sought after for potential future buyers, but it is also much more sanitary. While I won’t go into details, if you do a bit of research, you’ll understand why.
Keeping the toilet separate also gives couples who share their bathroom the ability to use the rest of the space comfortably.
